BOOK REVIEW

“Some people, they grow wiser as they grow older. Unfortunately, most people just grow older.”

And another novel by my favourite writer. ‘Ugly Love’ by Colleen Hoover is an adult romance that is so captivating and heartfelt.

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love so that just leaves the affinity. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

“God gives us the ugliness so we don’t take the beautiful things in life for granted.”

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

“Sometimes not speaking says more than all the words in the world.”

 REVIEW

This book wasn’t just a book, it was an entire world of its own. As usual, it is a rollercoaster of emotions that ends up mentally exhausting you. The fact that it was a dual narrative style gave immense depth to the novel. There is undoubtedly a lot of chemistry between the characters. Even though Miles doesn’t want a real relationship, he couldn’t help but show Tate that he cared for her. All those little things he did, be it buying a blanket for the homeless or decorating his place for Tate, did indicate his love for Tate. I knew from the beginning, whatever kept Miles from committing to a real relationship would be the reason that would draw a wedge between them. Even though Hoover is known for her cliffhangers, I did not expect Miles’ secret to be this big. Even though it was a love story and happy endings are inevitable, Colleen refuses to let you off this rollercoaster drive till the very last chapter. Another novel that is high on the colleen Hoover scale.

“You’re looking at me like you fell in love with me.”
“I didn’t fall in love with you. I flew.”

Grab your comfort food and spend 4-5 hours on this. I promise you won’t regret it. I did finish this in a single sitting.
