Book Review

“Push yourself. Don’t Settle. Just live well. Just LIVE.”

‘Me Before you’ is a sincere, honest, and reputable YA by Jojo Moyes.
Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life—steady boyfriend, close family—who has barely been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex-Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair-bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel—and now he’s pretty sure he cannot live the way he is.
Will is acerbic, moody, bossy—but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, she sets out to show him that life is still worth living.
Me Before You brings you to ask, What do you do when making the person you love happy also means breaking your own heart?

“I will never, ever regret the things I’ve done. Because most days, all you have are places in your memory that you can go to.”

Review:

It’s an addictive novel. Jojo Moyes portrays her characters with such grace that you instantly feel a relationship with them. Will’s condition is not something everyone can relate to. The grief and conflict that he had to deal with on daily basis fill the readers with empathy. This novel even talks about the topic of human nature and how connecting with certain people will make you see life more brightly. The central theme is not the romance but about how should we take a pause and appreciate all the blessings that are showered upon us. The basic crux of the novel is to tell you to take a moment to self introspect. To reflect upon how much we have and in the quest of wanting more how often we forget how fortunate we are. And as the title suggests, it’s about putting YOUR needs first. Even though I am a sucker for happy endings but one thing I appreciate more is truthful endings, the kinda endings that display how life truly is and that’s what this novel gave. The ending is heartbreaking but again it’s all about ME BEFORE YOU. On the whole, it is undoubtedly and beautifully addressed novel with heart-winning characters. Don’t watch the movie until you’ve captured the true essence by reading it first.

“I thought, briefly, that I would never feel as intensely connected to the world, to another human being, as I did at that moment.”
