When I look at you, I don’t see perfect
Sunsets and spontaneous flower bouquets
I see snoozed alarms and sleeping-in,
I see random kisses and arms around me
When I look at you, I don’t see pancakes
And maple syrup and blueberries
I see burnt eggs, panic and
Last-minute cornflakes,
I see murmured I-love-you’s and stolen kisses,
Bone-crushing hugs and piled up dishes
When I look at you,
I don’t see crowded bars and shared drinks
I see pyjamas and borrowed oversized t-shirts,
I see hours spent in between your arms,
With a book in my hand and a Ps4 in yours
When I look at you,
I don’t see red wine and fancy restaurants
I see Thums-up and nachos and sticky hands,
Half-empty boxes of pizza and garlic bread,
I see us fighting over MY FRIES!
When I look at you,
I don’t see movie theatres and expensive soda
I see cheesy chick-flicks to laugh at while
We’re wearing trousers with holes.
When I look at you, I don’t see textbook-perfection
Or romantic actors in lead roles
I see star-gazing and late nights spent talking about the universe
I didn’t believe in perfection and utopia
And happy endings and forever’s
But now that I look at you
I know my life isn’t so sad anymore
